juntos pela energia solar!
30/10/2024SOLAR ENERGY COLLECTIVES
For a just, people-centered energy transition 46% of Brazilian households spend half or more of their income on their energy and LP gas bills.
Households bear a significant burden to afford electricity. This situation is aggravated by the privatization of the industry, resulting in high energy prices and substandard service quality, creating obstacles for the full exercise of the right to housing.
Solar Energy Collectives emerge as an alternative model of grassroots organization and self-management for solar power production, as, for example, the collaboration between the Pólis Institute and MST Leste-1, in the east side of São Paulo.
United for Energy Transition:
- A change in the way of producing and consuming energy and an opportunity to boost local economic development
- Energy self-management allows historically marginalized territories to take control over energy production while also boosting the local economy, improving purchasing power, business generation, and entrepreneurship.
- These opportunities are an integral part of the efforts to promote a just, people-centered energy transition, providing energy autonomy to social housing movements.
ENERGY IS A RIGHT
Solar energy is not only a renewable energy source, but also a tool to promote energy justice and democratize the access to affordable, quality energy. Solar Energy Collectives are leading the way toward this revolution, building capacities in communities so that they can become solar power producers and consumers.
The three pillars of energy self-management: Community bond strengthening, Income generation e Contribution to energy transition
